Short excerpt on recipes for children

The International Cookbook, Margaret Weimer Heywood, Merchandisers Inc., 1929

“The correct feeding of children is of vital importance. It deserves all of the time, space, and energy that is devoted to it. [for example this book devotes 4 pages to this vital issue out of 383] To feed children well is a real achievement. The cultivation of violent likes and dislikes in food is a problem that confronts mothers today. These preferences usually result from the child’s observation of similar preferences in the adults around him, and they should not be encouraged. [my kids are picky eaters and it's so much fun I give them a gold star every time they reject their food] Children under five years of age are given a diet especially planned and usually prepared every day. Milk is perhaps the most important food, bread, vegetables, and fruit follow. Meat is first introduced into the diet by meat juices. Gradually bacon and chops are added.” [The first meat is bacon? We all know introducing meat is what brings on the really nasty stink in the diapers. Can you imagine if it was bacon?]
