Chocolate Brownies
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 beaten eggs
2 sq. (2 oz.) unsweetened chocolate, melted
3/4 cup cake flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup chopped nuts or raisins
powdered sugar
Work shortening with a spoon til fluffy, the add the sugar gradually, while continuing to work with a spoon until light. Add eggs and chocolate. Mix and sift flour, baking powder, and salt, and add, with the nuts. Turn into a greased 8x8 pan and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Immediately cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

My daughter tried this recipe (doubled) and it produced a cakey brownie that puffed up while cooking with a "chocolate ice cream" chocolaty-ness . She gave it a thumbs up.
